A few weeks back Annie at Montana Solar Creations shared a contest on Scratch Cookin’ Tuesday giving away $50 via Paypal to buy local food. I thought what a fantastic idea! I’d been brainstorming some ideas for contests where the prizes would be in line with the philosophy of Granny’s Vital Vittles. I had a few good ideas I’ll likely share as contests in the coming months, but I felt that Annie’s idea was by far the best one 
. Imagine if a bunch of bloggers followed suit … we could make a big impact in encouraging local food shopping!
Over the past few weeks I’ve devoted most of my writing time to helping people who must shop at Walmart or other large grocers find Real Food. With this post I’d like to make a small beginning in focusing on pantry shopping, how it differs from menu shopping, why it’s like the way Granny used to shop and how it fits so very well with the seasonal shopping required when spending most of your food dollars locally. The winner of this contest will be announced right around the time my weekly posts become all about Granny’s pantry.

I entered. However, I don’t struggle with finding quality real food in my area (though I would not pass up $50 towards my food bill). I do hope that someone who really needs this wins.

PS How do you use paypal for local food anyway? Isn’t that only for internet buying?
I just send it via paypal to your account. You can move it to your bank account after that and get some cash from it. Or if you have a paypal debit and the producer can take cards you can just pay directly from paypal. I do that some of the time myself
