Does Costco offer a lot of real food at affordable prices? That is the question this series seeks to answer. Join us over the next few weeks as we explore what Costco has to offer.
So my membership is paid up and now I am officially part of the Costco club! So far so good! I’ve made just one official shopping trip there and was pretty impressed with what I found. First, before we get to that I’d love to share with you my general thoughts on the place in the form of questions and answers.
Would it Be Possible to do the Majority of Your Shopping There?
Seems like it could be, right? After all they stock pretty much everything. But they don’t have real food versions of everything, not by a long shot. That said though they have a pretty impressive array of real food items at various levels of quality. So while you could go a long way towards completing your shopping list here it would still have some pretty big gaping holes you’d need to fill.0
What Kinds of Real Foods Does Costco Dependably Stock?
Good question. Since they are a discount club and I’m a new member I’m not sure how much of this stuff is there most of the time and how much might just be a special purchase. I do think from what I’ve heard online that they stock Kerrygold products pretty consistently as well as their own name brand organic line. You can pretty much depend on that. They always have a wide variety of artisanal cheese it seems. The organic meat and produce is a little more changeable.
And the Prices, Are They Really Good?
In a nutshell yes! If you can find the product you want and can handle the larger quantity yes, the prices are quite good. Well worth the cost of the membership!0
5 Really Good Deals at Costco
I found these 5 really good deals this trip. Along with my pics I’ve included some price comparison info on the item so you can see the difference in price for something comparable if not exactly the same at both Natural Grocers and Sprouts. For those buying organic butter this was a really super deal. I doubt there is much difference between the two store brands.
Seems like name brand organic butter is usually around the price of the Sprout’s butter …
The Single Biggest Savings I found …I don’t usually buy organic sugar, instead opting for honey, but at this price I may consider it. It is far to expensive at the health food stores …
Organic sugar is very affordable at Costco …We love this cheese and at this price we can have more of it!
Kerrygold Dubliner cheese for an excellent price …This is the coconut oil that there has been some controversy on. Reading the label it seems good to me … I would definitely consider it. In deciding issues like these sometimes I think you have to go with your gut feeling. If it bothers you, it bothers you. Fats and oils can be high profit foods and there is quite a bit of tomfoolery around them. That said, I know of nothing of any substance against this particular oil.
This is the coconut oil there was some controversy on. Looks like a good buy to me!Very good deal here on Kerrygold grassfed butter. I buy Kolona Supernatural grassfed usually myself … I prefer the texture. That is when I don’t have enough cream on hand to make butter at home.
More Kerrygold, this time butter. While the discount isn’t as steep as the cheese it’s still a good buy.
I’ve got LOTS more of these coming …
Next week, I hope to show you a few more good buys plus a few GOTCHA organic foods at Costco that are processed foods in organic clothing … so watch out!
