Hi Y’all!
So glad to be back here on Granny’s Vital Vittles! So much has been going on in my life that writing had to go on the back burner for a long, long while. But now I’m ready to fire that burner up again and start producing some fresh and tasty content for all my wannabe Granny friends 🙂 .
I imagine you might be curious about what’s been happening, and what led to such a long blogger vacation. Well, I’ll tell you.
A Fork in the Road
When I started this blog, and for the 3 years it was very active I was working full time as a contract software developer, with a 10hr+ a week commute on top of it. So I was working, driving, cooking, writing, and promoting my work … in other words I was working ALL the time. I wanted to work full time on Granny’s Vital Vittles, but knew I was a long way from making that happen.
I was a part of a real food blogger network of several hundred food blogs and was seeing some real progress toward being able to make blogging my job when that network blew up with way more drama than any soap opera you might remember. It was very disheartening to see. Most in the group lost a sense of direction as far as making blogging support us goes, myself included, and had to work out new ways to make blogging pay the bills. Many sites started to pitch MLM products, or host tons of ads, or do a lot of click-baitey type articles. I was even more disheartened with blogging than I was before.
So I lost my blogging mojo between the drama and the exhaustion.
And I had a choice to make.
I had started blogging because I wanted to share the huge difference traditional food everyday can make in the average persons life! And how much cheaper it is than everyone thinks! And easier too!
I didn’t want to write posts to promote overpriced products. I didn’t want there to be so many ads you couldn’t find the post anymore.
I wanted to share my love of real food, but I like everyone else had to make a living. Burned out and exhausted I gradually stopped posting. I left software development when there was a layoff at my company, worked for a bit for a local real estate agent and then brought my elderly mother to live with me. After awhile I started a local home organization business helping people here in Texas get their kitchens organized so I could be home to take care of take care of my Mom.
My Mom had dementia so as time went by she needed pretty constant care. I am so glad and thankful we had these years together before her passing last year. Caring for her was a truly life changing experience. It deepened my faith and built up my family thru experiencing her positive attitude to life even while suffering with memory loss, cognitive loss, and neuropathy. I am grateful she lived to be 91 and was able to spend the remaining years of her life with us enjoying the comforts of home.
My Plans for Granny’s Vital Vittles Going Forward
So I’m about 10 years older and hopefully a bit wiser than I was when I started Granny’s Vital Vittles. I have long debated what I should do with the blog. I have kept it online consistently during my long hiatus. You might have noticed the new look. Granny has gussied up the place a bit, swept out the cobwebs of old & broken pages and links, refreshed a ton of images, and re-added some posts that got lost in the shuffle of different hosting companies over my hiatus period. So if you’ve been looking for an older post you should be able to find it now on the ‘Start Here – Articles‘ page. If not let me know and I’ll see what I can do to bring it back online. I think I’ve found and re-posted about 95% of everything that was originally published back in the day.
But, that said in my humble opinion, blogs are kinda a thing of the past. While I really enjoy writing there are more direct ways to reach out to people thru social media. It’s much easier to join the conversation from those platforms. So I’m making my main platform YouTube going forward. I will still be posting here, though each blog post will be mainly a link to a YouTube video, with some additional info like links, or recipes, etc…
Still the Same Granny Attitude
But, now it’s thru a medium that’s just a bit more personal. I’m excited about this new adventure and I hope you will visit me and subscribe to my channel on YouTube.
So let’s get started! And here we go!
